Checking a firm's registration takes a minute on the Environment Agency's register, but few people know it exists, and the firms that turn up first in a search are not always local, or even real.

Digimill is a small website and search business in Colne that works with local trades every week. This guide puts every skip hire, rubbish removal and house clearance firm in Lancashire with a Google review on one list, town by town. For each one it shows what the firm says it does, its Google rating, and what we found when we looked it up on the Environment Agency's public register of waste carriers.

A firm not matched on the register is not necessarily unregistered. It may be registered under a company name that differs from its trading name. That is why every listing shows the date it was checked, and why any firm can claim its listing and give us its registration number.

Every firm starts from public business data. We keep those in Lancashire that are open, have at least one Google review and work in skip hire, rubbish removal, house clearance or waste collection, and we merge duplicates.

Each listing is then looked up on the Environment Agency's public register of waste carriers, by the registration number on the firm's own website, by its name, or by its address. The listing shows the registration we found, its tier and the date we checked. Services come from the firm's own website and are shown only where the firm states them.
